I Saw God Today #5

It is my desire to see God every day. I just need to be more observant of all the good that comes from Him. He has told us, "Lift up your hearts and be glad, for I am in your midst" (D&C 29:5). God was invited to our Stake Young Men's Camp last week. He was in our midst, and I could feel His Spirit. I saw His goodness in the young men and in their leaders.

I haven't posted in a while because I was helping my husband get ready for the stake young men's camp that we hosted on our property in Mancos, Colorado. We had about 45 young men and their leaders attend this event from June 23rd - June 26th. It was a lot of work but it was worth it.

I enjoyed meeting the young men of our stake, many of whom I had never met before. It was wonderful seeing them in this natural setting that God created where they had space to roam and explore, especially after having all the youth activities suspended for over a year. These young men and their leaders hold the priesthood of God. I felt safe and knew that He was watching over this extraordinary youth battalion.

I saw God in the leaders as they spent time with these young men teaching them new skills such as archery, knife throwing, and astronomy. They learned about birds of prey and were able to get up close and personal with these beautiful birds. They were also able to hike, bike, fish and do what boys like to do. I saw God in these young men as they worked together in a team building exercise to conquer "the wall." I saw God in the single mother who attended the campout with her special needs son so that he could experience this camp with the other boys. Together, they hiked to the top of a 12,000 foot peak. What an awesome accomplishment. I saw God in the service of those who were there to cook and feed everyone at camp. It took a lot of food to feed this on-the-go group.

I saw a love of God and country as these young men and their leaders prayed, recited the young men's theme, read scriptures, respectfully raised the flag in the morning, recited the pledge of allegiance, and retired the flag at night. These particular morning and evening activities were especially touching for me. I felt the Spirit strongly during our evening meetings with the stake president, the special speakers, and during our testimony meeting.

Yes, God was in our midst, and it was good.
